About Us
Western North Carolina is no stranger to the film industry. Since the 1920s, films have been made here, and today North Carolina has more production complexes and sound stages than any state in the nation outside of California. Western North Carolina has been the setting for such films as All the Real Girls, Loggerheads, The Clearing, The Fugitive, Forrest Gump, The Last of the Mohicans, Hannibal, Dirty Dancing, Being There, 28 Days, Patch Adams, Bull Durham, The Swan, My Fellow Americans and The Green Mile.
Bringing movies to the area takes some behind-the-scenes work, and that’s where the Western North Carolina Film Commission comes in. We assist filmmakers with scouting and securing locations, and act as a liaison for services such as road closures, permits, and use of public property. Use us as your sounding board; we're here to listen to you and help make this the smoothest production experience possible. This office also provides logistical information, including an online directory of crew and vendor resources. The Western North Carolina Film Commission’s digital location library is powered by Reel-Scout™.
Western North Carolina is a filmmaker’s paradise. Contact us to learn more, mtrimarco@awnc.org.
