Date Posted: 10/20/2006

The AdvantageWest Economic Development Group announced at the start of its October 19th Board Meeting, that Scott T. Hamilton has been named Executive Vice President. He will transition into his new role over the next several weeks. This new executive position consolidates the former Sr. VP-Business Development and VP-Industrial Marketing positions at AdvantageWest.

Hamilton currently serves as CEO of the Henderson County PED. He is a veteran economic developer and previously worked in positions with the Caldwell County EDC in Lenoir and in 1997 through 1999 as the Director of Industrial Marketing and CIS Programs for AdvantageWest. Hamilton was recently elected as Secretary/Treasurer of the North Carolina Economic Developers Association and is a gubernatorial appointee to the State Workforce Development Commission. He and his wife Hilda live in Henderson County with their two school-aged daughters. Mrs. Hamilton is a nationally board certified teacher.

AdvantageWest Economic Development Group Chairman, Gordon Myers participated in the announcement by saying, “our regional organization continues to grow. We have been recognized across the state and nationally for the progress we have made to put in place a broad based strategy for growing the mountain economy. As Scott works in his new role with AdvantageWest, he will lead our business and industry development efforts and cross train very closely with our CEO, Dale Carroll. The AdvantageWest Board is very excited that Scott has decided to rejoin our organization.”

Henderson County PED Chair, Rob Cranford made the following comment about today’s announcement, “we are very pleased that Scott will continue to grow in his career as an economic developer. He has provided great leadership for our organization and we will miss working with him on a day to day basis.” He continued, “When you look around our community you see examples of Scott’s excellent work with the Raflatac facility at Broadpointe Center and Elkamet Inc. facility under construction in Hendersonville. We also can point to significant progress within our organization including the recent transition to Henderson County PED as new corporate entity.”

Bill Moyer, the Chair of the Henderson County Board of Commission, stated; "Although we are very disappointed that Scott will be leaving his leadership position with the HCPED, we are pleased he will be continuing his job creation efforts here in the region. This is a great opportunity for Scott and one that will benefit Henderson County as well as the entire AdvantageWest region. I am pleased Rob Cranford has appointed the Partnership's Chair-elect, Sandy Tallant to chair the search for a new president & CEO of the HCPED.”

CEO Dale Carroll shared his enthusiasm for this important announcement, “as I complete my tenth year with AdvantageWest, it is gratifying to see that the first employee I hired in early 1997 is returning to our organization. I am also thankful that our governing board has supported my recommendation for developing a succession plan. Scott is the right person at the right time to lead our regional marketing efforts and work with me to prepare for the future of AdvantageWest.”

Scott Hamilton was introduced to the media and guests present for the announcement and reacted by commenting, “the tremendous support I have received throughout my career in Caldwell County followed by AdvantageWest and more recently Henderson County helped prepare me for this new opportunity. Based on my experience as Chairman of AdvantageWest’s Blue Ridge Industrial Council, I believe I am rejoining the organization at a great time in terms of quality marketing events and strong economic activity. For nearly a decade, Dale Carroll has been a mentor to me and one of my closest confidants.”
