Date Posted: 5/2/2006

Morganton – A $12,000 matching grant approved by the AdvantageWest board will provide the Burke Partnership for Economic Development with critical funding for “soft costs” associated with the startup of a new industry in Morganton. As a result of this grant and support from the City of Morganton, The Burke Partnership for Economic Development, the Governor’s One North Carolina fund, Duke Power and the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Ice River Springs, a Canadian bottled water company, will begin operations in the former Summitville Tile Building. The company will employ 50 and invest $9 million in machinery & equipment over the next three years.

AdvantageWest CEO Dale Carroll praised local and state leaders for their efforts to create jobs in Burke County, saying, “Burke County leaders, and officials at the state level, should be proud of their commitment to bring Ice Water Springs to Morganton. We are proud at AdvantageWest to have played a role in putting 50 people in our region back to work.”

The company will manufacture plastic water containers as well as bottle spring water at the facility, which is located adjacent to I-40 in Morganton. Ice River Springs will partner with local business Table Rock Spring Water, who will supply the water used in the bottling process. Ice River Springs is one of the largest water bottling companies in Canada and has contracts to supply U.S. retailers, and has supplied FEMA contractors for hurricane relief efforts.

Installation of machinery and equipment will begin immediately, with production expected to begin this summer.

Clark Erwin, Chairman of the Burke Partnership for Economic Development said, “We have always promoted Burke County as a healthy place to live and now, we are proud to welcome a Company that produces this healthy product.”
