Date Posted: 9/3/2004
AdvantageWest today announced a staff reorganization designed to sustain an expansion in programs and economic development services to western North Carolina communities.
AdvantageWest Vice President Betty Huskins has been promoted to Senior Vice President-External Relations. In her new role, Huskins will lead the organization’s efforts to bring state, federal and private resources to western North Carolina economic development efforts. She will also have management oversight for AdvantageWest’s contracted support and staffing for the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area and the MountainSouth USA international marketing campaign.
Richard Carleton, an Atlanta-Ga.-based marketing and business development executive, will join the AdvantageWest team in mid-September as Senior Vice President-Business Development. His responsibilities will include oversight of the programs and staffs of AdvantageWest industrial marketing, the WNC Film Commission, Blue Ridge Food Ventures LLC, the Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council, and Blue Ridge Angel Investors Network, all programs of AdvantageWest.
In making the announcement, AdvantageWest CEO Dale Carroll stated “As we prepare for a second decade of service to the communities of western North Carolina, we are excited that experienced veterans like Betty Huskins and Rick Carleton will play key leadership roles in our organization. Manufacturing recruitment remains as important to the economy of western North Carolina as it has ever been, and AdvantageWest will continue a strong focus in this area. But by coordinating these efforts with support for small business, film projects, tourism and more, Advantage will help build a more diverse and robust economy as we move forward.”
AdvantageWest is a regional economic development organization serving the 23 westernmost counties of North Carolina. AdvantageWest has awarded more than $4.6 million in grants to local communities for economic development assistance during the past decade.
